Khalil is the Principal Designer and Studio Director at Kat Black Design Studio, leading the delivery of luxury interior design and fit-out across Dubai. With many years of direct UAE experience and an MA in Interior Design, he combines formal design education with sustained, on-the-ground practice in the emirate’s specific conditions: its regulatory framework, its climate, its material supply chain and the expectations of a discerning client base.
His specialisms span luxury villa interiors, Dubai Hills Estate and golf course-facing properties, majlis design, and smart home integration, alongside commercial fit-out expertise across DIFC and Business Bay. He works fluently within the region’s regulatory environment, including DM permits, Emaar NOC processes, DEWA, DCD, DHA and DTCM requirements, having delivered residential commissions in Sidra and Palm Jumeirah, apartment fit-outs in Downtown Dubai and DIFC, and commercial projects in Business Bay and JLT.
Khalil’s writing reflects the same principles that guide his design work: specific over general, and grounded in what actually performs in Dubai rather than what looks good in a mood board. Every material he specifies has to survive the climate, every layout has to respect how a client genuinely lives, and every majlis has to honour cultural convention while impressing both the client and their guests.
