Shop Interior Design Dubai
Kat Black Design Studio designs and fits out shop interiors across Dubai for independent retailers, multi-brand boutiques and growing businesses establishing their first or second retail location. Shop interior design in Dubai covers an enormous range of business types, from a 150 square foot nail salon in JVC to a 1,200 square foot multi-brand fashion boutique in City Walk or a 400 square foot specialist coffee concept in Box Park. Regardless of the size or sector, the principles that produce a successful shop interior are consistent: a shopfront that captures attention, an internal layout that converts browsers into buyers, display fixtures that present the product at its best and a brand-expressive environment that customers remember and return to. Kat Black Design Studio delivers all of this at a price point appropriate for SME retail clients in the Dubai market.
Small Shop Design
Small shop interior design in Dubai, covering retail spaces of 100 to 400 square feet, is one of the most technically demanding interior design briefs available. The constraints are severe: a very limited floor area must accommodate customer circulation, product display, a point-of-sale position, staff workspace and storage, whilst feeling welcoming and well-organised rather than cramped and cluttered. Every square foot of a small Dubai shop must perform a specific function, and no space can be wasted on elements that do not contribute directly to the commercial operation of the store.
Kat Black Design Studio resolves small shop interior design briefs through several specific design strategies: vertical display systems that use the full wall height to create display capacity without consuming floor area; multi-function fixtures that combine display, storage and point-of-sale in a single designed element; a restrained colour and material palette that creates visual coherence and makes the space feel larger; and a lighting scheme that uses directional spotlights to draw the eye to specific products and create a sense of visual depth within a compact floor area.
For Dubai’s JVC, JBR, Al Quoz and Box Park locations, where the retail environment is more community-oriented and the customer base is price-conscious relative to premium mall destinations, Kat Black Design Studio delivers shop fit-outs at a specification level that produces impressive results within the budget realities of the SME retail market.
01.
Wall Display Systems
Full-height wall display systems using timber, metal or a combination, incorporating adjustable shelving, hanging rails, vitrines and integrated LED lighting, allow the full wall perimeter of the shop to be used as productive display surface. Wall systems are designed at the scale of the ceiling height, avoiding the visual ceiling created by systems that terminate below the full height of the wall.
02.
Freestanding Fixtures
Central floor fixtures for product display, including display tables, pedestals, gondola units and island display systems, create a mid-floor display layer that allows products to be seen from multiple directions and encourages customers to move through the space. Kat Black Design Studio designs freestanding fixtures that are proportionate to the shop’s floor area and ceiling height, and that can be repositioned to refresh the visual merchandising without requiring a new fit-out.
03.
Point of Sale
The point-of-sale counter is both a functional element and a brand statement. Kat Black Design Studio designs POS counters as bespoke joinery pieces in the materials and finish of the shop’s overall design language, incorporating a durable surface for transaction processing, integrated storage for packaging and consumables, and a position within the store layout that allows staff to observe the full shop floor whilst serving customers.

Our Expertise
Boutique Fit Out
Boutique retail fit-outs represent the highest specification level within the shop category, covering fashion boutiques, jewellery stores, lifestyle and homewares boutiques, beauty and skincare retailers and specialist food and beverage concepts. A boutique interior in Dubai must compete visually with the global luxury brands that Dubai consumers encounter in the major malls, which sets a very high baseline for design quality, material choice and execution standard.
Kat Black Design Studio designs boutique interiors for shops that communicate the brand’s specific positioning clearly and compellingly, from the shopfront interior design and window display through every element of the internal environment. Bespoke joinery systems replace off-the-shelf fixtures wherever the brief and the budget allow, because the quality of the joinery is one of the most reliable signals of a boutique’s positioning. Lighting is designed from scratch for each project rather than specifying a standard commercial lighting package, because the specific direction, colour temperature and intensity of the light is one of the most powerful determinants of how the product looks and how the customer feels within the space.

Display & Fixtures
The display fixtures in a shop are the primary interface between the customer and the product. They determine how the product is presented, at what height it is seen, how accessible it is for handling and trying, and how the store’s full product range is organised and communicated. Kat Black Design Studio designs display fixtures as bespoke elements of the shop interior rather than specifying from a catalogue of generic retail fixtures, producing systems that are specific to the product type, the brand aesthetic and the available floor area.
Completed shop interior design projects in the Kat Black Design Studio portfolio include a 280 square foot luxury skincare boutique in City Walk with bespoke white marble and brushed brass display shelving, integrated LED undershelf lighting and a free-standing consultationtable; a 400 square foot independent fashion boutique in Box Park with a full-height timber grid wall display system, a custom POS counter in smoked oak and a branded shopfront incorporating the client’s new logo system in a powder-coated metal fascia; and a 180 square foot jewellery boutique in Dubai Mall with a fully bespoke vitrine display system in lacquered white and polished brass, a customer seating area for piece selection and a mall operator-approved shopfront with a backlit brand panel. Shopfront Interior Design
The shopfront is the first brand communication a potential customer receives from the store, and the design decision that most directly determines whether a passing customer stops and enters. Kat Black Design Studio designs shopfronts as integrated architectural elements, covering the fascia sign, the window display system, the glazing and frame treatment, the entry door design and the threshold lighting that is visible from the mall concourse or street.
For mall stores in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and City Walk, the shopfront interior design must comply with the mall operator’s technical requirements for fascia height, projecting element restrictions and materials. Kat Black Design Studio manages the mall operator’s shopfront approval process for all mall retail clients, producing a shopfront design that is both brand-expressive and compliant with the specific mall’s requirements.
For standalone and high-street retail in Al Quoz, JBR, La Mer and similar locations, the shopfront design has more freedom but must address the specific conditions of the location: direct solar exposure, dust accumulation, the transition between the hot exterior and the air-conditioned interior and the maintenance requirements of external surfaces in Dubai’s climate.
