Hotel Interior Design Dubai
Kat Black Design Studio delivers hotel interior design and fit-out in Dubai for boutique hotels, branded hotel conversions, serviced apartment properties and mixed-use hospitality developments. Hotel interior design in Dubai operates within one of the world’s most competitive hospitality markets, with over 800 properties competing for the guests that visit Dubai’s 16+ million annual tourist arrivals. In this environment, the quality of the interior design is a direct commercial driver: it influences TripAdvisor and Google review scores, the rate at which hotels achieve their target ADR, repeat guest rates and the operational effectiveness of the hotel’s food and beverage offering. Every hotel interior designed by Kat Black Design Studio is delivered to DTCM compliance standards for the property’s target star rating and brand classification, with all required regulatory documentation managed by the studio alongside the design and fit-out process.
Hotel Design Overview
Kat Black Design Studio’s hotel interior design service covers the full scope of a hotel property from the arrival sequence through every guest-facing and back-of-house environment. The studio has delivered hotel interior design commissions across the following property types in the Dubai market.
- Boutique independent hotels: properties of 30 to 150 rooms with a distinctive design identity and a service model that differentiates on experience rather than scale
- Branded hotel conversions: repositioning of existing hotel properties to a new brand standard, requiring the design to meet both DTCM compliance and the brand’s own design guidelines
- Serviced apartments: residential-standard apartment fit-outs within a hotel model, requiring all the durability and operational practicality of a rental property within the design aesthetic of a luxury hotel
- Hotel F&B: all-day dining restaurants, lobby cafes, rooftop bars and pool bars as standalone commissions within an existing hotel property
- Hotel spa and wellness: day spa and hotel spa fit-outs within both branded and independent hotel properties, delivered to DHA healthcare compliance standards for treatment facility categories
Our Expertise
Guest Room Design
The guest room is the most frequently experienced space in the hotel and the environment that most directly determines the guest’s overall satisfaction with the property. A guest who sleeps well, can work comfortably, enjoys a genuinely luxurious bathroom and wakes to a room that is visually pleasing and functionally efficient will forgive operational imperfections that a guest who struggles with the room environment will not. Kat Black Design Studio designs guest rooms with these priorities resolved in the following sequence: sleep quality first (blackout provision, acoustic isolation, bedding specification, climate control), then bathroom quality, then working functionality, then visual aesthetics.
Guest room design at Kat Black Design Studio addresses several Dubai-specific conditions. The room must perform at two very different occupancy profiles: the leisure guest in October to April and the corporate guest in the quieter summer months. Furniture must be specified for the wear and cleaning cycles of a high-occupancy hotel room rather than for a residential environment. The minibar and in-room dining presentation must be resolved within the room’s spatial organisation without dominating the sleeping environment. And the smart control systems for lighting, blackout, HVAC and entertainment must be intuitive for international guests who arrive jet-lagged and unfamiliar with the property.

Design
Lobby & Public Areas
The hotel lobby is the property’s most powerful brand statement and the space that sets every guest’s expectation of the entire stay from the moment of arrival. Kat Black Design Studio designs hotel lobbies as choreographed arrival sequences, not simply as functional check-in spaces. The spatial journey from the hotel entrance, through the arrival lobby, to the check-in desk, the seating area, the hotel bar visible beyond and the lift lobby that leads to the guest floors, is designed as a continuous experience that communicates the hotel’s identity at every step.
Material specification in the lobby must balance the visual quality required to make a strong brand impression with the durability required of a surface that processes thousands of footfalls per day. Large-format stone flooring, specified at a honed rather than polished finish for slip resistance, is the most common floor material in Dubai hotel lobbies. Feature walls in stone cladding, timber panelling or bespoke joinery with integrated art niches create the visual depth that a lobby space needs to feel impressive rather than merely large.
Hotel spa interior design is one of the most technically and atmospherically demanding commissions in the hospitality portfolio. A hotel spa must create an immediate sense of separation from the rest of the hotel from the moment of entry: the material palette, the lighting atmosphere, the acoustic environment and the sensory temperature of the air must all shift perceptibly as the guest crosses the spa threshold. Kat Black Design Studio designs the spa arrival sequence, including the reception, the changing rooms and the relaxation lounge, as an extended transition experience that prepares the guest for treatment before they enter the first treatment room.
Spa Design
The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) sets the classification standards for all hotel properties operating in Dubai, from one-star budget properties to five-star ultra-luxury hotels and the additional ‘deluxe’ classification that sits above the standard five-star rating. DTCM classification is based on a comprehensive assessment of the property’s physical standards, including room sizes, bathroom specification, public area facilities, food and beverage provision and a range of specific physical attribute requirements that vary by classification level.
DTCM Compliance
Completed hotel interior design projects in the Kat Black Design Studio portfolio include a 45-room boutique hotel conversion in Al Quoz, transforming a commercial property into a four-star DTCM-classified hotel with a lobby cafe, a rooftop bar and 45 individually designed guest rooms across three room types; a hotel spa fit-out within a five-star property in Downtown Dubai, covering 12 treatment rooms, a hammam, a relaxation lounge, a reception and a changing room suite, delivered to DHA compliance and the operator’s brand standards; and a hotel all-day dining restaurant in a Jumeirah beachfront property with 160 covers across indoor and terrace dining, DCD-compliant with a fully equipped commercial kitchen and a distinct design identity from the hotel’s lobby and public areas. Design
Restaurants & Bars
Hotel restaurants and bars are increasingly the commercial heart of the property in Dubai’s market, where the food and beverage offering is as important to booking decisions as the room quality. Kat Black Design Studio designs hotel restaurants and bars as destination venues in their own right, with a design identity distinct from but coherent with the hotel’s overall aesthetic, rather than as hotel amenities that happen to serve food and drink.
All hotel F&B fit-outs are delivered DCD-compliant, with fire detection, kitchen extraction, suppression and emergency egress resolved within the design from the outset. DTCM licence conditions for the specific F&B format are incorporated into the design brief. For rooftop bars and pool bars, structural loading, wind exposure management and the specific DCD requirements for external licensed premises are all addressed as design conditions rather than afterthoughts.
